Top 10 Books

Books have been such an important part of my life. Not only are they a past-time, but something I enjoy studying. I received a minor in English at Texas A&M because I simply enjoyed reading and took English classes for fun. One of my favorite classes was Young Adult literature. At the end we had freedom to write an essay comparing any two books and stories we read that semester. My essay compared Little Red Riding Hood's wolf to a character in Treasure Island and the movie Treasure Planet. It sounds like a stretch, I know. But I believed it to be very well thought out and written and so did my professor because she kept it as an example for the future! So writing and reading is a talent of mine, I'd say!

Here's a list of my top 10 books I've read so far. One's I think everyone needs to read atleast once in their life! Many give off some sense of nostalgia, an escape, or hope for me that I love.

10. Love and Gelato

Cheesy but cute, this romantic novel is everything you wish for someone who is longing to go back to Italy. Reading it took me back to those hot summer days when only strawberry gelato cooled me down.

9. The Hunger Games

An intense, action packed book. The movies were pretty good. But the book was much better, as it usually goes.

8. Little House on the Prairie

One of the first books on this list that reminds me of my childhood and simpler times. Also a book that proves hard work and sweat pays off.

7. Twilight

You may laugh (like I often did in the movies) but the books were entertaining and descriptive.

6. Holes

Another book that reminds me of my childhood. Not only was this book eloquently written but it keeps the reader hooked.

5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Although I could easily fill this list with all 7 of the books I decided to limit them. The fourth HP book was one of my favorites because you are introduced to knew characters and challenges and it leaves you with some iconic scenes.

4. The Giver

A book I've read many times, and yet a movie I've watched only once (go figure). The Giver is such an amazing story to me. It seems so outrageous and different from our current society and yet not far fetched according to some I'm sure. It is such an interesting world to enter.

3. Great Gatsby

Iconic. That's what I think when I think of this book. A great read (and movie). It pulls the reader in instantly and makes you feel for every character.

2. The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe

Yet another book that reminds me so much of childhood. I read the book right before the movie came out. I remember all I wanted in the world at the time was to try a Turkish delight because it is described so deliciously in the book. (I tried one though and it was awful. Do not recommend. The author lies.)

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I mean does this even need explaining. This book was so good, so emotional, and so entertaining. For those of you who haven't read HP you are missing out! An amazing conclusion to Harry's story!
